For the creative musician to survive and prosper in today's fast changing music industry they need a range of personal and professional skills. They must be responsive to change and able to benefit from new opportunities. This exciting and innovative programme combines the development of both performance and musicianship skills to industry standard with the critical business and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge that will enable the successful graduate to create a rewarding career in the music industry.
Students will be challenged to develop their skills on their instrument/voice, both generally and in a performance environment. They will be engaged in the analysis and synthesis of the major contemporary styles in the popular music genre offering them more musical material on which to draw in the creation of either their own musical work or to the brief of a client.
The modern creative musician needs to synthesize the skills of the musician with those of the entrepreneur. Students will have opportunities to engage in work experience / internships and will study promotion, marketing, social networking and finance, as well as develop personal skills, such as communication, self-management and motivation.
Students will produce and workshop a significant personal portfolio of work over the duration of the course. Importantly, they will be challenged to interact and work in a wide range of professional scenarios, learning to interact with a range of other disciplines, such as film, media, management, recording and new media.
Further study options include progression onto the year 3 of the ICMP BMus (a top-up module may be required) or the Middlesex University BA in Professional Practice.
